Apple has launched the Apple Watch Ultra, a rugged smartwatch for the first time. Protected by sapphire crystal glass, this new smartwatch is made for outdoor adventures. The American tech giant also unveiled the most awaited iPhone 14 series, Airpods Pro 2, Apple Watch Series 8, and AppleWatch SE at the same event. One of the USPs of this smartwatch has to be its build quality and design. It has a digital crown that is larger than ever before. And the new action button is also raised from the case for glove accessibility usage. While the case is made of natural aluminum, there is also an extra speaker for emergency scenarios that can produce a high-pitched 86-dB siren sound.
Likewise, the new customizable Action button can enable instant access to Compass Waypoints, Backtrack, or Workouts. Moreover, there are three microphones for crisp and clear call quality even in windy conditions. For audio, there are dual speakers as well. It weighs 61.3 grams, the bulkiest one yet from Apple.

Coming to the display, it is the biggest one yet on an Apple Watch. It sports a flat 49mm (1.92″) Retina OLED screen with Always-on functionality. Also, it gets sapphire crystal protection against scratches. The display has a whopping peak brightness of 2000 nits for sunlight readability. The display case is also made of titanium with lifted edge protection for the screen while the display is a sapphire crystal cover.
The new Apple Watch Ultra is powered by a new S8 chip. The chip is super powerful to handle intensive workouts and adventure activities. It is accompanied by a W3 wireless chip and a U1 chip as well. The watch is also Wr100 certified which means it is well to go under a dive 100 meters deep. There is a depth gauge on the watch to provide real-time measurement of underwater depth and water temperature, down to 40 meters. Furthermore, it also gets an EN 13319 certification for recreational scuba diving.

Being a premium watch, it consists of all of the health tracking features. It has an ECG app that can record your heartbeat and rhythm using the electrical heart sensor. And it also checks the recording for any form of irregular rhythm and sends you health alerts just in case. Likewise, there is sleep tracking with REM, Core, and Deep measurements. Similarly, the Watch Ultra also has a SpO2 monitoring sensor to check the blood oxygen saturation level. It has IP6X dust protection too. Plus it also gets the MIL-STD-810H certification which means it can operate in a wide temperature range
It also becomes the first Apple Watch to use both L1 and L5 GPS. So, the watch will provide the most accurate and precise distance, pace, and route data. Moreover, it also gets the crash detection feature as on iPhone 14 series. This feature can be a life-saving one with automatic SOS calls in case of unfortunate events. Also, it has fall detection too for the same purpose. The Apple Watch Ultra can also your location and notify your emergency contacts. It has built-in Maps as well for navigation.
Talking about the software, it runs on the latest watchOS 9 platform which offers advanced running metrics. As per Apple, the Watch Ultra is capable of displaying up to 6 training metrics simultaneously. The new OS also brings in support for six new keyboard languages and notifications for medication management with the new Medications app. Likewise, it has a redesigned Compass app for precise direction finding.

The watch also gets the best battery life out of other Apple watches yet. The battery can provide a 36 hours backup on a single charge. The endurance is designed for adventure seekers. While it can cater to up to 18 hours of LTE usage. And one can also prolong the battery life to up to 60 hours by switching it to low power mode as per Apple. It also supports fast charging via a magnetic USB-C cable.
There is an international roaming feature as well. Furthermore, there is a “Backtrack” feature that helps you to get back to the initial location in case of being lost or stranded. And other features of this watch are Apple Pay, Multisports Workout, Afib History, Bluetooth 5.3, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, etc.

Apple Watch Ultra price in Nepal can be expected to be Rs.1,34,999 if and when it launches in Nepal. The official price in the US is set at $799. The pre-order has already begun and the shipping will commence on September 23.
This new watch from Apple is a mind-blowing one with premium specs and features. Adventure lovers would definitely love to have this smartwatch. And the price tag is also premium but it is indeed one of the best smartwatch money can buy at the present time.
